Hello and thank you for visiting Postvention Alliance. We are glad you’re here! We honor each person’s individual survivor experience and, as such, we want to announce how we have changed the way we work. The work we have done in the past focused on local, regional, and state level collaborations with survivors. We are now working through direct referrals from past collaborators to support projects that focus on survivor-centered issues. We do not mandate that projects work within mainstream #suicideprevention industry circles. In fact, we prioritize survivor-led efforts which work within areas of interest which have been, and continue to be, ignored and subverted by the #suicideprevention industry.
Postvention Alliance advocates for support, research, care, and education for individuals who have been affected by suicidal thinking or behavior in themselves, someone they love, and those who have suffered a loss to suicide. We encourage peer care and trauma-informed provider care, and we closely follow research that supports survivor voices.
Research from1st-person contributed data shows that less than 50% of suicidal thinking is related to mental illness. In addition to medical conditions, there are other socioeconomic conditions that cause suicidal thinking. Some of these are incarceration, chronic hunger, and severe chronic stress.
Suggested publicity and branding guidelines for media and for individuals and organizations working in the field. Here are some links to learn principles and practices of advocacy.
We do not support carceral responses for people who are unhoused or in crisis, profiling such as psychological autopsy or other profiling methods, or support forced “treatment”. Click HERE to learn about some modern efforts in research & practices.
